Citrix login hangs at blank desktop - no taskbar or icons.

About five months ago, a user became unable to log in to Citrix. The process stalled at a blank blue desktop. I tried to resolve, but eventually rebuilt the system and the problem was gone. Now, five months later, the problem is back. And I'd rather not rebuild the system again. We're logging in with Citrix Program Neighborhood version 9. Other users can log in. If I change the login name on this users computer, I still cannot get in. He can log in to the Citrix server through remote desktop with no problem. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program neighborhood, but it did not resolve the problem. Any suggestions?

Are you saying that you tried logging into citrix from his computer with a different account and get the same problem?

Yes - I tried my username and password. Which work on my computer for getting into Citrix. But not his.

Has anyone experienced a hang when logging into the Citrix Desktop? The desktop background comes up, but it locks up right before you would normally see the small MetaframeXP splash screen, leaving you with a blank desktop. It stays there forever until you close the session window. This is happening for only a few of the 40 or so users, but on different PC's, with different OS's (XP/2000), and different installations/versions of the ICA client (a few having the latest). There is just a slew of variables that make the issue incredibly hard to troubleshoot. Has anyone else ever seen this desktop "hang"? I can provide more information about anything if needed. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help in any way!!

You also want to verify that the only dns entry in the tcpip setting for the user, is the ip of the ad machine and that dns on the ad machine is set up correctly.

Ok - Thanks for the suggestions but I'm still coming up empty. We are running version 2 of the Update Rollup1 for Windows. That was something I tried on the last go round with this problem. I tried deleting the license00x key and letting the system rebuild it but that didn't let me in. And I checked the dns. He has two dns servers listed. The same two I have listed. I don't know how to check if dns is set up correctly on the ad machine. Maybe someone could help me with that. We do have two dhcp servers and I'm pointing at one and this user is pointing at the other. But I've been told that that would not cause this problem.

Any more suggestions or am I out of luck?

Ok - I found out that Citrix would work in safe mode with networking. So after a whole lot of trial and error, I found that if I disable the smart card service, Citrix works. Thanks for all the suggestions.
