any one here who knows how to configure quickbooks pro 2001 to work with users with limited rights in winxp sp2.

quickbooks requires user to be a power user or an administrator to run. but i can't give that much rights to all quickbook users.

thanks a lot

Vendor "workaround" is to require Power user

http://www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qbw2002/premier/129407.html

http://knowledgebase.quickbooks.ca/detail.php?qbid=QB10&product=217&buid=QB&cat=Data%20and%20Utilities

Steps needed to make "user" mode

Instructions to get it to work under non admin are here

hi moh10ly,

the solution is still not applicable. our users need to remain restricted or limited. the link provided suggest to make them power users which is not allowed.

a solution similar to this ( http://www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qb2006/a4edfd81.html ) might work but this is not for QB pro 2001 because i cant find the last 3 reg key.

i also found out a work around but admin intervention is required on first run of the QB pro 2001

here is how
1. i created a QB user with admin rights and password protected.
2. i create a shortcut on all users' desktop equipped with runas /savecred.

the only disadvantage of this is that the admin should run the QB Pro 2001 in the first time and provide the password in each users. after that all restricted users will be able to use quickbooks as an admin but will retain their restriction as far as the windows system is concern.

hope this helps the others who have similar problems but i am still interested in a flawless solution in this matter.

THANKS!!

put the QBW file on a network share with read/write/modify permissions. and assign AD a group policy for Quickbooks users.

If at this point the user logs in from a workstation as a non-power no-admin. and is not able to load the QBW file..

then the answer to this question is that you can't.

You might want to try this, but it applies for QBs pro2000

can i accept my own answer... i think my workaround is enough for my problem... all users now are using quickbooks like admins although they are limited users.

thanks to runas /savecred :D
