Network Config Problem - ZenWalk/Slackware Dist

Distribution: ZenWalk - Based on Linux
Network Type: Shared LAN which does an autoconfig

I have used auto DHCP to config the network. Some work, others don't.

Firefox - Works
Thunderbird - Works

Netpkg - Works sometimes

Gaim - Doesn't
XChat - Doesn't

Any ideas?

ok i think you have a firewall in your system
what do you mean with autoconfig? you have a server to give an ip and setting can be more specific ?

I'd also think you have the firewall enabled. As root do:

/etc/init.d/iptables stop

Then try the above tools again. If they now work, You'll have to check the ports needed for them and open those ports on the firewall.

No I don't have any firewall running. I specifically have disabled it.

pablouruguay, auto config from dhcp server.

lexxwernAuthor Commented:
I don't think so mate. I can use port 6667 for IRC with the same connection when I boot from Windows.
