Firewall for Windows 2000

Hi,

I am running Windows 2000 SP4. I am currently using Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5. I find this simple to use, allows adding which programs to block and unblock by adding rules.

I think this software is very good  but would like to know if there is something more up to date out there.

cheers

The sygate has been discontinued:

message from website:

Important Notice: Effective November 30th, 2005 all Sygate personal firewall products will be discontinued. This does not affect Sygate's Enterprise firewall and endpoint compliance products, which will still be updated and supported.

Zonealarm, I've tried that before and it causes issues with different pieces of software.

Cheers.

Any other suggestions?

Greetings, doohsam !

Kerio Firewall is a very good firewall and takes up little resources.  There is an updated version, Kerio Personal Firewall 4

Best wishes!

doohsam,
I hadn't focused on the fact that Sygate's firewall had been discontinued by Symantec. It is still available for download from many websites like http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160 or
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,8132,RSS,RSS,00.asp.
Obviously, if it is unsupported it is far less attractive. Sorry for recommending a non-existent link!
The internet is full of firewall downloads. Many have a free trial option - your best bet is to try some and see what suits your needs. Now that Sygate is unsupported, Kerio and Zone Alarm are the industry leaders for free downloads. There are many more paid-for utilities.
I have Norton's firewall on our family computer, and Zone Alarm on the machine in my workshop. Both computers have not had significant problems over the last three years.

HI,

Thanks for all your help. Will look at kerio and possibly sygate. I realise these are free downloads but they seem to be trial versions, does that mean they stop working after a 30 day trial?

Cheers,

Doohsam

To quote Kerio's website:

"the Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall will keep working after the first 30 days, but in basic mode."

Just like Zone Alarm, you get what you pay for.

My understanding of Sygate is that it is free for individual domestic users.
