Is there any special rules to follow or any special characters that have to be entered if I wanted a barcode to run a formula? I am offering max points because I need a solution quickly. (I am using code 39 barcodes)

The barcode devices I know use the keyboard input driver to get data into your system. So if you're on a text field and you scan the barcode, the data is inserted into that textfield. What is exactly your idea??

I got that. I can successfully scan text. I want to actually run a formula by scanning a barcode.

Could you translate that into dummy-language? DO you mean something like this:
"I want that, if the barcode reader is user, the code activates a formula"

What operations are permitted using the barcode driver, are there any settings? Is there software available for it? What's the product and type of the reader?

A suggestion: use a NotesTimer on the form, that looks whether there is a complete code in the field; when that's the case, use a keyboard input simulator to put an F9, Tab or Right-Arrow into the keyboard buffer. I used Ben Poole's PushKeys function to do this. See

The F9 will trigger a Recalc-event, the Right-arrow (or Tab) will trigger an Exiting-event on the field.
