How can I have an employee change text on our web site without actually editing it on server?

We are finishing up our new web site and on the home page we have a one line sentence that says, "Last week Fairrington Delivered 95.42% of its clients orders ON TIME!" I have no problem editing it every week since I'm the webmaster, but if I'm on vacation, we would like someone assigned to do this easily without getting access to the server or pages. I was thinking of a form or something that they could access at and all it displays is a text box. They would enter the new number like 96.12 and click a button. Done. Does anyone know of anything easy to implement this? Javascript? Any help would be appreciated.

Javascript is'd still need a server-side script to implement the change along with any javascript you used.  Your idea of the simple one line form is really the best.  Just save that value to a file or a database and have it read in when the page is rendered.  Anything else would be overkill to change one little thing.

Oh, and password protect the script so that not just anyone can do it.  A simple apache password should suffice...assuming you're using apache.

That sounds about right. Can you provide any sample code for the dump and how to add it into the main page to pull the text from the file? We are using IIS here. Thanks!

Unfortunately, IIS and ASP are 2 things I won't touch.  For the password protection, assuming your hosting provider provides some sort of control panel, there's more than likely an option there to set a password for a directory (you'd have to create a directory/folder and put the form file with the update code in there.)  Beyond that, you're likely in an ASP environment and so I'm not really sure how you'd process it from there, I'm afraid.
