Once connected to a VPN server (2003) the client can not ping a server via name

Once I am connected to the server, I can not ping any machine (except the VPN server) via name but only via IP address.
Once I am connected to the VPN (XPpro) I do an "ipconfig /all" I see that they are 2 DNS server in the list and it's the same DNS IP then the VPN server (2003).
Once on the VPN server (2003) I can ping anything via name.
Any clues?
Thank you

in the "Networking" TCP/IP options in the VPN settings on the client, click properties, under the DNS tab put the domain.com(.local whatever) in the DNS suffix for this connection.

That should do it...especially if you can ping by FQDN (so first try pinging host.domain.com instead of just host)

Ok thank you this seems to had have done the trick. Now is there a way to have the VPN server regiter automaticly for the client? Before we had an old VPN server and we did not had to do that.
Thank you

My assumption is that it is RRAS on 2003 doing the VPN part, correct?

If you set it to assign a static pool, then you'll need to do the above mentioned change.  If you run DHCP on the server then you can specify Option 015 DNS domain name, during the DHCP assignment.

Hi,
As soon i put a "append dns"  and put a domain suffix  it worked on all the VPN clients. Execpt with users having a D-link router but all other user using a Linksys no problems... Any idea? At this point i will leave it like that and have users switch to a Linksys routers witch we know works.
Thank you

Glad it works....strange about the D-link's, but every code has its own quirks...
