Switching DC Roles from SBS2003 to Enterprise 2003

I have two servers, first one is SBS 2003, second one is 2003 Standard Edition Svc Pack 1.

The SBS is the Primary DC, I will be taking it out of the network, reformatting it and doing a clean install of 2003 Standard on it.

What I need to know is how to switch the roles from the SBS being the primary DC to the 2003 Standard being the primary DC so that when the SBS comes off line it will be relatively seamless to the end users.

I'm assuming that since SBS doesn't play nice with others, that this cannot be done until the SBS is offline?

I have active directory and DNS installed on the 2003 Standard already and it serves as a back up DC.

    Hi JeffLevin,

yup :) you guessed it, you will have a ball of a time trying to remove the roles, there is no way of of transferring them, but once the SBS is offline you cn seize them :)

you have to add your other server as an additional DC, then turn off your SBS and seize the roles

then you need to clean your metadata

make sure your DNS is all AD integrated and you should be fine
