publish app on xpa/ 2003 box

I have a shortcut on my desktop ( it does not have an .exe extension).  and when I start it up... it works.  I want to publish this shortcut but it does not work for me..

" <application> failed to start

The citrix server is unable to process.... blah blah... etc."

does the publish app have to be a exe?  or can I publish a shortcut?

no a shortcut on your desktop will not work because others (most likely) won't have access to that file.  Why not just publish the program that your shortcut is pointing to?

To find out, just right-click the shortcut and go to Properties.  On the "Shortcut" tab look for the Target.

I tired but the properties on the shortcut will not display the target path....otherwise, yes, publish the app would be great.  It's our erp ( peoplesoft system) where within the menu, u can create shortcut but the short does not display any paths....

does it display any info?  Do you know where the .exe file is for your peoplesoft program?  Without this you won't be able to publish in citrix.
The application you are publishing must be installed on the Citrix server or located on the network.  You can test the process of publishing an app. by publishing the desktop, signing onto the published desktop, going to Run, and executing the path you are testing.  This will give you more feedback on the issue.
