Yes, for osCommerce you will need a MySQL databases, and PHP. I recommend installing it on a Linux server, but there is also a download for Windows.

You can download the PDF documentation from

The installation itself is quite easy. osCommerce has a step-by-step auto-installer. The customisation and configuration can be a little more difficult, but usually just takes a couple of hours of getting acquainted with the system. There are also a lot of contributions you can install. These can be downloaded from

If you do decide that you will need certain contributions, then I would suggest looking at CREloaded {http://creloaded.com/}. This is basically the osCommerce package with most popular contributions pre-installed, which could save you hours, days or maybe even weeks. If you want to download this software, I would recommend to do so from SourceForge:

Hope this helps...

If you're looking for hard-copy books, you could go to www.amazon.com, or your nearest international site, select "Books" from the drop-down box at the top, type "osCommerce" into the search query field and press the "Go" button.

I cannot recommend any specific books as I don't do a lot of reading myself :)

If the PDF manual is not comprehensive enough, there is also more documentation available.

A knowledgebase:

Online documentation:

Various installation procedures:

osCommerce will also work with Windows. There is documentation just for the Windows package, which you can download as a ZIP file here:
