Turning Oracle Database

Hello,

My company is using IBM Server ( 8G RAM, 2 CPU = 3G x 2 ) , OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon Update 3).

Oracle 9i is running on it.

Now i want to configure Oracle ( or OS ) to use effect my resource ( load balancing o 2 CPU, change SGA ,... ).

What should we do now ?

Thanks

The resources to be optimized are CPU, DISK IO and System Memory.
For CPU optimization enable Parallel processing. Set the initialization parameters for parallel operations.
If there are multiple disks then distribute IO for different tablespaces for data and index.
Allocate optimum system memory for Buffer cache, shared pool log buffer, sort area etc.

Hello,

With mentioned resource, Can you give me a sample configuration ( initialization parameters file, disk io,.. ) as you mentioned ?

Thanks.

For achieving the best performance from Oracle database the following has to be considered

1) Hardware and operating system performance
2) Oracle instance performance
3) Individual transaction (SQL) performance

Allocate sufficient memory for "BUFFER CACHE", shared pool etc. Make sure that total SGA size is not too big for physical memory, since swapping of the SGA will severely degrade Oracle performance. The following initialization parameters in oracle influence the amount of memory utilized

DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS
DB_BLOCK_SIZE
DB_CACHE_SIZE
DB_FILE_MULTIBLOCK_READ_COUNT
HASH_AREA_SIZE
JAVA_POOL_SIZE
LARGE_POOL_SIZE
LOG_BUFFER
SORT_AREA_SIZE

To enable parallel CPU utilization set the value for PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS > 0

Set the value for DBWR_IO_SLAVES > 1
