    Accepted Solution

VFW drivers can be accessed from within DirectShow (VWF Capture Filter) but I have never heard about accessing DirectShow video sources from VFW (VFW is definitely older interface).

I have found this about JMF:

The following capture devices are supported in JMF 2.1.1 FCS with the Windows Performance Pack:
Video For Windows (VFW), Windows implementation only.
    DirectShow (DS), Windows implementation only.
    JavaSound, all implementations.

    And also this:

"On the java side dsj tries to keep things open as possible - you may use it standalone or let it feed data into JMF or other APIs."
