I've recently purchased a new PC:

AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
1.9GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 video
NVIDIA RAID-5 Hard Disk Array (450+ GB 4-disk array of 160 GB drives)
Window XP Pro SP2 (fully patched)
All drivers for Video, Sound, and Chipset at highest release level
27" Westinghouse Monitor

-I've run CCleaner
-Windows Registry Analysis and Correction Tool
-Dxdiag (no errors)
-reinstalled DirectX
-Loaded both Empire Earth Patches
-Disabled everything but basics in MSCONFIG
-Uninstalled and Reinstalled the game
-Deleted everything in %temp%, C:\windows\temp, c:\windows\prefetch, %userprofile%\local settings\temporary internet files
-Downloaded and installed the demo version of Dungeon Siege II to test my DirectX setup and compatibility (worked fine)
-Upgraded every driver available on the ASUS web site for my motherboard, video, and sound

Even with all this power and effort, I get:

Empire Earth: Empire Earth.exe  -  Application Error
The instruction at "0x211119d6" referenced memory at "0x0c3b6f50". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminat the program.

As soon as the beggining movies are over and the game is about to start.  Any ideas?

Which version of EE? I,II,Gold,Expansion?

Do you know which build you are running? (Has it been patched since installation?)

Legitimate install or from a copy/download, any third party patches (NoCD etc) (have to ask + it is relevant for this kind of problem)

It sounds like it may need patching. Check the downloads section on this site: http://ee.heavengames.com/new/ee2h/index.shtml & look for the right patch for your version

I have EE I.
I have already applied patch 1.04 and 2.
This is a legitimate vendor supplied CD, manual, etc.

Anything else? I also loaded the newest version of drivers for my video, chipset, audio, and all windows patches.

Thanks

Sorry, I missed you already mentioned the EE patches
Really unlikely you actually have a physical problem with your system memory so this is due to a conflict between the games programming and it's environment.

I wonder if your machine's setup is actually so good it is part of the cause ...

EE was put together well before dual core processing came along so one option would be to change the X2's affinity and run the game with a single processor.
The other option would be to switch it into compatibility mode for Win98 (which is something you are already familiar with)

I don't think there's going to be a straightforward solution to this one & it's going to take some trial & error to get it right :(

I tried compatability mode.  No good. :(  I'm not sure how to change the processor affinity until after the process has started.  How would I go about that?  I guess I could download EE II demo... if they have one.  If it works, I could upgrade.  I just hate it when I can't get something to work.  *ack*  Could it be:

- 2GB of RAM
- 450GB RAID 5 volume
- Onboard video (not shared memory though)
- AMD instead of Intel processor?

I have an ASUS A8N-VM CSM motherboard.  Anyone have any issues with that and old directx based games?  The reason I ask is that I tried to install Age of Mythology and couldn't get it to work either.  I just did out of the box, no patches, etc.  I was just curious.  Again, keep in mind that Dungeon Siege II demo worked like a champ... no problems.

*ack* *Ack* *ACK*

Thanks in advance,

Jeffery Smith

Well, the EE II demo works on my computer without a problem.  My conspiracy theory goes like this: the game manufacturers intentionally builds obsolescences code into their games so you can't continue using them when you buy new technology and have to buy the new version... I don't like the new version as much, it is too busy.  If you can tell me how to force processor affinity before launching the program, I'll give that a try.

I think this is covered in this thread http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t60070.html(check the Asus MoBo details as well I think it is the same combination you have) look for ROPE which will allow the affinity setting.

Wow, I found ROPE.  30 pounds! That is close to $50.  Any free affinity tools?  I haven't tried it yet.  So I can't tell you for sure if it works.

Thanks,

Jeff

Think you might be looking at the wrong ROPE - RunOnProcessorExplicitly
Free from:

Either that or someone is trying their luck with pricing the utility

I got my copy from a google search at http://innes.org.  Description of licensing follows:

RunOnProcessorExplicitly Pricing Structure.

The cost of a License Key is £30 and can be purchased with either VISA or Master Card using "PayPal".

Once we have received the required fee, your License Key will be emailed to you. You will require a License Key for each system you wish to run the ROPE application on, so please submit a separate request for each License Key required.

To Purchase a License Key, please enter your Product ID and click the "Purchase a Key"

I'll download your link and see what it does for me.

Thanks :-D

It looks like the same program.  According to the download page at http://innes.org, when you download it, you get a full featured 30-day trial.  I wonder if it is just an honor based registration without any enforcement mechanisms.  Either that, or someone stole his domain and is fishing for credit card numbers.  Anyone know?

You're right it is the same package, but at least initially it's to use for diagnostics.

I still haven't gotten to testing it. I'm just too busy to play with my games. ACK!!! I'll update this if I finally try it and it doesn't work. Thanks for the help Masqueraid.
