Playing music 'through' another pc on a wireless network

I have the usual home setup of a desktop and a laptop. Although the laptop is a MAC andf the PC is an IBM compat.

When I access music files (mp3's) on the PC from the laptop they are played through the laptop. Is there any way I can open an mp3 on the desktop and get the desktop to play it through it's own soundcard?

You can simply install VNC on your desktop and just remote control it using his ip address to connect to it using a web browser from the laptop on port 5800.
(i.e http://192.168.1.2:5800) it's a free and simple to install.

your other option is to install winamp on your desktop and add to it this plugin:
http://www.flippet.org/wawi/
it lets you connect to your winamp from a web browser on another computer.
it is a cool solution too.

several media players can do this.

I have a wireless media player, that can search multiple computers for music files, netgear MP101, this may not be exactly what you are looking for, but i think the software included can do what you want.

Good Luck,
