I have Windows XP with Windows Media Player 10, Real Player and QuickTime installed. Media Player works fine but in recent months both Real Player and Quick Time have started giving problems where before they worked fine.
Real Player will only play movies in streaming format. If I try to play movies after downloading and saving them the bar indicating the play time will move but the picture sticks at the first frame and no sound is heard.
In QuickTime if I try to play a movie after downloading it I get an error message which says "Error - 2020 : the movie contains some invalid data". If I try to play it in streaming format the movie plays very slowly without sound and is unwatchable.
This happens when trying to download movies from any website.
I have tried downloading a later version of QuickTime but my computer will no longer download any software.
After downloading software and trying to run it I get the following error message "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software". After clicking on run I get an error message saying either "The file is not a valid archive" or that the software is not a valid Win 32 application.
Would reinstalling Windows XP perhaps solve all these problems or do I need to do something else ?
I don't really feel confident in attempting a reinstallation.
