Filemaker Server 5.5/Windows question

Hi,
Quick question, I have a client who just added a second network card to his
Windows 2003 server and now Filemaker Server's open files can no longer be
accessed over the network. All other applications, still work. I suspect
that Filemaker is bound to the wrong adapter, is there a way to specify
which Network Adapter that Filemaker Server will bind to?
Thanks in advance,
John

I had a similar problem once, and had to manually fiddle around with the settings several times before I finally got it working. I had to change the priority of the network connections, which involved looking in the Bindings and Adapters page of the Network Properties. I have never done this with Win2K3 Server, though, so I don't know if there is a better way to handle this with that OS.

Have you tried connecting to FM Server on the IP address of the second NIC? If that doesn't work, then there may be something else going on.

as far I can remember, it takes the 1st nic recognized on PCI bus at boot up, not necessarily the 1st installed. but this is visible in the registry, you should be able to switch it to the other card. however, this is from memory and not verified with the current server version, ie 8 (or 7 which almost the same).

I don't know if this is true for Server 2003, but in Windows XP, you can do this by going to the Network Connections control panel, then looking in the ADVANCED menu for Advanced Settings. There you can change bindings and adapter priorities. One would hope Microsoft could come up with something more sophisticated for configuring NICs on an actual network server, but then again...

Bill, bindings are set the same way under xp and w2k3 server. and changing them may mess up something else, it's not the only software which relies on bindings order, some ftp servers for instance do the same, so to be done on a server which is only used as fm server maybe.

I missed the obvious here. As Bill pointed out I can change the IP address from the Filemaker Server Console. I had it stuck in my mind that this couldn't be done, probably from an earlier server version where ithis option didn't exist.

true that this did not exist in v6 server. and also, Bill did not mention it does exist in v7/8!
