SUN Solaris 5.8 - failover

I have a SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R running a production oracle database.  Files reside on a Xiotech SAN.  I also have a development sparc SUNW,Ultra-60 that I ftp my backup files to and offload them to tape.
My question is:
Is there some software that doesn't cost an a lot that will failover the disks on the SAN to the dev box if the prod box goes down.

I know that I could just mount them on the dev box but am concerned about what happens when the prod box comes back up.  I have done this with clusters but never on two different sun boxes.

You're concern is well founded.  You need a controlled failover process to ensure that something doesn't mount the storage on both systems at the same time in an asymetric configuration like you're looking for.

Unfortunately, I only know of two products:  Sun Cluster and Veritas Cluster.

Veritas Cluster costs $$ before you can touch it.  Sun Cluster can be downloaded at no cost (but no maintenance support) for free from here:

You're looking for the Sun Java Availability Suite.
