Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO
Hi,
I have implemented a GPO to add information in users computer to add "DNS Suffix Search List" and for some users/computer it work fine and other did not work.
For the users/computer not working I get this error message in the Event log.
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO cn={1E1D81E2-0385-4FF4-981 1-AFE54872 47B5},cn=p olicies,cn =system,DC =ymq,DC=ad ,DC=iata,D C=org. The file must be present at the location <\\ymq.ad.iata.org\SysVol\ ymq.ad.iat a.org\Poli cies\{1E1D 81E2-0385- 4FF4-9811- AFE5487247 B5}\gpt.in i>. (Access is denied. ). Group Policy
For a workstation not working with the GPO after the login if I open a Windows file explorer and I copy/past the path : \\ymq.ad.iata.org\SysVol\y mq.ad.iata .org\Polic ies\{1E1D8 1E2-0385-4 FF4-9811-A FE5487247B 5}
I can open the folder and I can see and open the gpt.ini file.
It seem the computer can't access the GPO folder during login process but after fully login it can.
Need urgent help, on 450 PC only 150 of them are working correctly and get the GPO applied.
I already made some search on this site and there is a lot of similar question but none of the one I read resolve my issue and a lot of them are just a repeat answer.
My domain controller are Windows 2003 domain and my workstation is a Windows XP.
Thanks,
Eric

The policies apply after users log off and logon. Also, have you checked whether the GPO you created has Allow permissions for all required users, or just the half of your users.
When you choose for GPO to apply for a group of users, it doesn't mean you're actually giving permissions for all users to access the GPO.

Hi rindi,i have no objections and i know you do a great work cleaning questions.
I'm new on this board but i saw a pattern here
1- Participant post a question.
2- Experts post a solution or many.
3- Participant solve his problem or not (we don't know, do you?) but don't respond anymore.
4- Moderator close the question and refund the points.
5- Experts don't get regards for his time and efforts.
What's the fun on answer questions?
cheers,
Walter

When the asker doesn't respond it is very difficult for us to know if the solutions posted would have worked or not, particularly if he doesn't react to more info requests. Without enough info it just isn't possible to answer a Q, and in the above one that is case. When such Q's get PAQ'd they'll be listed in the database as answers, but because of the missing info they won't help answering similar Q's of others, actually they might confuse those more. When I feel a Q really has been answered by the posters I do recommend points be given.
rindi is right but is't this a nice option to get away from give point ?!
That's what the "No Refund" part is for, the asker doesn't get his points back then.
OK.... got it ... :)
Oh..., i got it too. Thanks for your answer.
Just an idea, could not be better if participants must properly close questions before ask new ones.
cheers,
Walter

Probably not as some would then pack 12 questions into 1, which should be asked separately in different TA's, and would total more points all in all.
Thanks IATA for coming back and closing this yourselve!
