Link LPT1 to PDF995 printer

Hello All,

I have a older dos based Database system that all documents are send directly to the local printer located on LPT1. Some of the print jobs are large and waste lots of paper at times. I want to be able to create the documents with pdf instead of printed at times. I have used PDF995 and the converter that comes with the package to convert documents to PDF with code in the past and all works great.

The problem here is all print jobs are sent directly to printer on lpt1. I would like to map lpt1 to the pdf995 printer object on the local machine. I have tried the Net Use commands to link the two. The mapping is created as expected and a file is created when the job is started. The problem is the document (pdf) that is created is empty, a blank document. I have even tried piping text files to lpt1 (type test.txt >>lpt1) and get same results, a blank pdf document.

Any input or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think I have this underway.

What I did was to create a virtual printer with a postscritp driver, using Adobe Postscript driver, to print to a file. Once the file is created The file can then be converted to pdf manually or code cound be put in place to convert the file to pdf.

Have a look at Ghostscript.
