I am learning to do batch files, and came across this /par in my .bat file. I dont know really how it got there, as I was just manually creating the batch. I did just install easy batch creator, but I didnt use that prog. Anyway here is the code that I have in my batch, but I would just like to know what the /par means.

{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fcharset0 Arial;}}
{\*\generator Msftedit;}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs20 ::Test Batch\par
@ECHO ON\par
CD \Program Files\EventLogExplorer\

This is probably an easy question, but if you can tell me why or how all the extra "fluff" got put into the .bat I would greatly appreciate it, and will give some extra points.

Hi - the coding you've posted isn't a batch file as such - it looks like it used to be but it was then open up into an application and incorrectly save as a RTF (Rich Text Format)   The file is essentially damaged now as CMD/DOS won't be able to interpret it correctly.

I suspect it should look something similar to:

CD \Program Files\EventLogExplorer\

which basically changes to a folder called 'Program Files\EventLogExplorer', executes a file called 'elex.exe' and then waits for a keypress from the user.

However, to answer you question have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Text_Format which explains the RTF format

Hope that helps..

ps. Just incase you don't want to wade through the above Wikipedia entry "\par" means essentially 'new line'
