Cannot locate LPT1

My Epson 640 printer is connected and printing properly.

Then suddenly, it stopped printing in the middle of a page.  I get an error: "cannot locate LPT1, make sure printer is online and connected."

I checked the cable and power, and everything is good.  I even installed the printer then re-installed it. I am using Windows ME.

    1. Go into the device manager and check to see if LPT1 is listed under the Ports.

    2. If it is not, check that it is enabled in the BIOS and reinstall the port (WinME should do this for you if it's enabled.)

    3. If there is still a problem, try printing a simple text file from a dos prompt: create a text file in "C:\" called text.txt then go to dos and type:

    C:\>copy file.txt LPT1

    4. If this works, your ME driver is messed up.  Check for updates on the epson website.

Let me know if any of these ideas work!
