D-Link Smart switch (DGS-1224T) and VLans

Hi

Can someone explain to me how to configure Vlans? I would like to separate different servers in my colo centre into Vlans and plug the firewall WAN port into the switch so that all Vlans can use that as the gateway. Is this possible? I can set the Vlan ports to Tagged, Untagged and Unmanaged. Not sure what they mean but I can't seem to access the firewall port if I tag a certain number of ports to create the Vlan.

TIA

The switch ports which the server is connected to should be untagged, most of the NICs don't know how to read tagged frams.
From what i understood you want your firewall to be used as a gateway between the VLANs, so all you need is to set the port that the firewall is connected to and add all the vlans that you want him to bridge to that port - all the VLANS on that port should be added as 802.1q vlan tagging.
You will have to configure your firewall as well.

Hi,

Thanks for the reponse,  the issue we have is when we set the port that the firewall is attached to as tagged,  none of the vlans can ping the firewall.  Yet if we untagged that port only one vlan can use that port?  Any further ideas?  Do you think it may be the firewall nic not being able to read the tagged frams?  Hence no ping reply?

TIA

It can be of 2 reasons:
1. As you suspected the firewall doesn't support tagged frames.
2. The firewall need a special config to be used as a router between vlans, have you checked that?
