Dear Cisco Experts,

I shall be embarking on my CCNP journey pretty soon and would like some advice on the 2 packages presented to me;

Package 1

2 x 2900XL Enterprise
2 x 2610-1T max mem 12.3 Ent Plus
2521 4T frame-relay max mem 12.2 Ent Plus
2501 2T max mem 12.2 Ent Plus

Package 2
3 x Cisco 2610 Routers, 64/16 RAM, 12.3 IOS, 1  Ethernet Port (built-in)
3 x Cisco WIC-2A/S Serial Module (1 installed in each router)
2 x Cisco 1912 Switches  (Enterprise IOS)

The lads are offering both at the same cost.. so i'm kinda confused here.. hope y'all can list out the pros and cons and which is better in terms of future upgrading (for CCIE) and etc.

Appreciate the advice.

    LVL 12

    Accepted Solution

    I would say pkg1 is better the 2500 series routers are EOL EOS so they are worthless in the real world but provide good experiance for learning

    The switch is what I am looking at the 1900 switch is EOL EOS a long time ago the 2900XL is still a good switch and is EOL and EOS but is still widely used and follows the same command structure that the 3500 seriers still follow the 1912 was a menu driven mostly and close to IOS in the enterprise edition but was an aquired product from Kalpana / grand junction and not a real Cisco developed product.

    I hope that helps
