upgrade ADC install placement question 1
Hi,
I am upgrading nt4/5.5 to 2003. After I upgrade the PDC/nt4.0 to 2003 server, I install ADC to connect to the 5.5 box, and setup default agreement. This is on the 2003 DC that will NOT be running exchange 2003. My questions are:
On the 2003 member server that I am installing exchange 2003 on, do I install another ADC on this member server? This will be the first 2003 exchange server, co-existing with the 5.5 server. I will need to move mailboxes to it.
Thanks - Wayne

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I am still confused about the ADC. I install ADC on the 2003 member server that is going to be the exchange server. Then create/point the connection agreements to the 5.5 server, (two way connection). Then install exchange 2003 on this server. I am following the Coexistence with Exchange 5.5 tool from the exchange 2003 CD. In phase 3 step 4 it says to change the connection agreements to connect to the new server running exchange 2003. This part really confuses me....When I started I had 1 ADC that had 2 connection agreements in it, one for public folders and one for users. Then after the install of exchange 2003, there was another connection agreement in the first ADC - a config CA_newservername, in addition to the two that were there to start with. Also, there is a new ADC, that is empty, and it is named the new server. So I am not sure what I should have and what to change.
Thanks - Wayne

Moreover if you run the exchange deployment it assumes that you have not installed ADC into the existing system. But it in your case you have already installed it.

Hi,
After going over MS info, it says I do NOT have to reconfigure the ADC if we are not going to be running in mixed mode for very long. I am install ADC on the server that will host exchange 2003, and the tool from microsoft has you install it before you install exchange - in a 5.5 2003 coexisting situation.
Thanks - Wayne

Theoritically speaking its not necessary if you have installed the latest ADC from exchange.
Thanks
