Alert workstation from the server

Is there a way to create a small program on the server that will alert each workstation that somthing happened?

I want to create an application on the server that when a call comes in, it will get the caller id info and store it in a database, then alert every workstation, that has a certain program, that a call came in and to check the database. I have already used a caller id program on an individual workstation with good results, but have not tried to move it to a server then alert each workstation.

I am not looking for code at this time, just need to know if it can be done.

There can be more than one way of doing this but here's one
The application running on individual client should have a small piece of code listening to a particular port
Now the server broadcasts to this port whenever it needs to notify the client apps.
This would involve little bit of socket programing, You would need "System.Net.Sockets", You would find abundant help on the net for it, would be very simple only a few lines of code.
