Urgent !! The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable
We have been working on this for months... this errors seems to be misleading as it appears to have nothing to do with the server or anything on the network for that matter.
Symptoms.. we have determined working with the software vendor that this erorr occurs while an active x componenet they have written is try to determine if sounds are enabled on the pc.
This problem is really difficult as it is intermittant although once it starts it continues until the system is restarted
Environment is a windows 2003 server running sql 2000 database
windows 2000 clients running this custom application
This error has never occurred at any other site the vendor has worked with and they are convinced it is something in our environment causing the issues
The user has local admin privleages and we are not restricting anything so I find this hard to believe.
Has anyone seen or heard of the before and most importantly have any ideas or suggestions.
keep in mind I do not have access to the code. however I am able to speak with the programmer.

Make sure that they have installed SQL Client on the Client PC.

I installed the client an no change
Please check, are they created DSN. If it's created, test the DSN connection.

The problem was found to be a conflict with an old version of VNC remote control software...
the conflict was between VNC and the active x component of the software
