I am primarily an ASP.NET developer using VB.NET.  Occasionally I have the need to write an app that periodically (weekly) does some action (ie. send an email, create a report) based on data.  What are some methods to accomplish this task?

My current solution is to create an .aspx page that does the process and then schedule it via Windows scheduler and a .bat file.  This is prone to issues and I would prefer a more "solid" solution.

Thanks.

Jack.

Hi JackWooten,
----------

best solution is something debateable

why not do it all in VB.NET without using ASP? and schedule that process on the windows scheduler?

you could also use is the SQL Server Agent which is almost always up :)
building a DTS script that is scheduled on the SQL Server and does the file send for you since its close to the data building the report is also very robust
