using web application (asp.NET) is the best way to develop an intranet application ?

I have to devolop an application of management, for mostly an intranet use. I get the idea to use asp.net for this (so web application). I am asking now if it is the best way for doing this (in professional context) ?

A lot of profesionl software for the internet is writen via PHP.
You might also want to customise content management platform such as http://drupal.org/ insed of starting from scratch.
