Hi experts.

Is it possible to get around password protection on a .pst file if the password was added in outlook 2003?

The reason I ask is not so I can break into other peoples e-mail accounts, but rather to know that my own is secure. I know that earlier version are insecure as there are utilities available that remove the password protection. Is this also the case for outlook 2003?

Passwords can still be "instantly" recovered even for 2003 version of PST files.

Guess there's no point adding one then.

Thanks anyway, will have to think of alternative security measures.

You still need a password recovery package to "instantly" recover the passwords (as well as access to the file).  So somebody has to be willing to shell out U.S. $50 or more, (and know that the password can be cracked, know where to get the software, etc.) to access your email.  So while it won't keep a determined person out of a PST file, it will probably discourage the casual curious person.
