I tried to install SQL Server 2000 on my workstation (Winsows XP Pro). During installation, I got a message box which says &quot;A previous program installation created pending files operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup&quot;. However, after I restarted that computer and tried again, the same message box occured again.<br />

In fact, there is another application installation has the same problem. But other application installations were OK.<br />

As I remembered, when I tried to install those two applications at first, Windows XP Pro in my computer had a windows updates ready icon in the right bottom corner of the screen. After I installed the windows updates, I can install other applications without problems. But I still cannot install those two applications.

Cannot install application for unknown reason
