Can't write file to share on server over VPN

I'm using an XP client and I'm able to browse the shares and access them over VPN,
but i'm not able to create or wirte files on the shared folders..

help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

This is probably due to not having the appropriate permissions for the share. You will likely need to change the server share to allow everyone write/modify privileges, or logon with an authorized account. If you are logging on to a domain you may need to use the fully qualified user name if the PC is not a member of the domain, using a user name such as  JDoe@SomeDomain.abc  or  SomeDomain.abc\JDoe
What operating system hosts the shares, is it a server or an XP machine (home or pro)? Do you you have access to check the share and security permissions?

thanks robwill I looked into the security settings on the 2k3 server and gave user the appropiate permissions..
