Hi All.

Im a novice poking around on a windows 2000 box and i need to compare the differences between 2 folders.

I published an output from a cms to Filesystem to 2 destinations at the same time, but one output delivered 35000 files and the other outputted 35017.

so i need to find out the 17 files diffences between the 2 folders.

is there an easy way to do this without installing any software on the box?

dir patha /s /b /one > patha.txt
dir pathb /s /b /one > pathb.txt
fc patha.txt pathb.txt > diff.txt
start diff.txt

I.e. makes a directory listing of all files in both areas in name order then compares them for differences

Try  /LB option onf fc.exe to increase lines to sync after differences - not on windows at the moment to check syntax - try fc /?

you could also push these files through windiff (gui compare program - google for it)

sorry no more detail, using a naff keyboard on a pda while stuck in hospital waiting ..

On a proper machine today, did you get anywhere with this?
