digital signature - how can I tell if it is vaid when received?

When I receive an email using Lotus Notes 6.5 how can I tell:
1 - if it has a digital signature
2- if the signature is valid?

The Mail will be signed, and the signer will show up in the status bar.

Got this from a college at work-


Lotus uses a proprietary algorithm and is transparent to the end user (i.e. does not contain any signature information in the body of the email message.)  Lotus signs on the outgoing messages via the email header field "Sign =  [1|0]".  This is entirely handled by the Domino Server and is transparent to the email message recipient.  So with Lotus I don't know how you would filter or verify on the signature (i.e. data authenticity; is this really from William?).  Therefore to answer your question, I don't know.  Seeing that you are stuck using Lotus I would suggest you consult a Domino Server expert?
