My computer automatically turns on by itself

My computer automatically turns on by itself at 3am. I am using a Windows XP Home Edition. Is it something to do with the BIOS or schedule tasks. Is there anyway I can check it detect the setting?

Thanks!

There are power management settings within BIOS that will allow you to start the computer at a given time. Since you haven't posted your system specs I can't give you a detailed account of how to change those settings, as the menus vary in BIOS. Basically, get into BIOS setup at the boot screen by pressing the designated key, and look for power management settings and disable the auto start event.

BTW- if you'd like more detail, post your system or motherboard brand/model.

Also- any 'wake on' (LAN, modem, etc.) settings that are enabled in BIOS can cause your system to power up, but since it's a consistent time, it's more likely the timed event. You can check that they are all disabled, unless, of course, you need to use the 'wake on' function.
