SMS 2003 Server Catalog not updating

Hello

My org has 2 SMS 2003 sp2 servers.

I recently applied sp2 to both.  I am creating advertisments for the recently released June 2006 patches, however on one of the SMS servers (Server2) none of the most recent patches are listed under software updates in the sms management console.  The other sms server is fine.

I did a search for the wussyncxml.log file in sms_ccm\logs but couldnt locate it.

I'd like to get this sms server to sync up again with windows update but in the meantime I'd also like to know if it is possible to download and install the update catalog myself?

Thanks
MW

I was able to later find wussyncxml.log.

There is an error:
Sync tool failed to download "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=40751".  Error code: 1

Thanks for responding NJ

I believe we had the newest scanner but wasnt sure.  I downloaded and ran the setup. When I had tried this before I got an error on the "current task: running the sync task now" screen. I specified a sync host and when the setup finished I am now able to see the latest patches under software updates.

I created a package and advertisment that included these latest patches.

A couple of weird things of note is that under the "requested" column there was nothing but zeros.  Also the patches showed up with "windows update" but not the mbsa.

Prepare for your VMware VCP6-DCV exam.

Josh Coen and Jason Langer have prepared the latest edition of VCP study guide. Both authors have been working in the IT field for more than a decade, and both hold VMware certifications. This 163-page guide covers all 10 of the exam blueprint sections.

The clients will show ZERO by default.  You need to make sure that your clients run the SCAN first and then perform a hardware inventory.  once this is done, the you should see more information ...you will see Requested column populate.

This is a very good website to check out when you have time...shows demonstrations of SMS tasks:  http://blogcastrepository.com/blogcasts/37/sms/default.aspx

You need to verify that your synch is working...because this is where SMS gets the knowledge of the latest patches...  I use the older version of the scanner that uses the MBSA technology.  On my server, I have an MSSECURE.cab file that exists in the E:\Program Files\SecurityPatchSUS\PkgSource\1033 directory.  This contains the info that is downloaded from Microsoft.  If I open this file, I can do a search for a late patch like MS06-026 and find info in the file.

This file can manually be downloaded from MS:  check the securitypatch.ini file for the location...
