LaserJet 8000N and changing default tray

We have 8000 N series printer. We would like to utilize capacity of tray 4 and make it the default (huge nightly printouts) .No matter how we change configuration it starts printing from tray 3.When I changed paper kind from plain to something on all of them except tray four it defaulted to tray one. Printing preferences and saving config and making sure tray 4 is the "one" no success. I scan the workstation with HP ActiveX controls which informed the PC about the latest driver installed. I guess disabling all the trays except tray 4 would resolve the problem....Any suggestions??!!

You could try checking the driver settings as well as the printer settings, make sure they are all set to tray 4 and try again.

Try printing a paper path test on tray 4.

Press "Menu" - until "Information Menu" appears.
Next
Press "Item" - until "Print Paper Path Test" appears.
Next
Press "Select"
Next
Press "+" or "-" - until Tray 4 appears
Next
Press "Select" bypassing the other selections and print a page.

Check the page and be sure everything is properly centered.  If it prints as if the page is not large enough - runs off the side of the paper, it may be the paper guides on tray 4 are not fully or properly seated in the paper selection.  Be sure ALL the paper guide connections (Top and Bottom) are in the proper slot for the paper being used.  May not appear as if it's significant yet the paper guide in tray 4 tells the printer what size paper is in the tray.

Hope this Helps!!!
