Fujitsu Siemens Scenic N300 recovering Windows XP Pro

I bought a Fujitsu Siemens Scenic N300 with a valid XP Pro license from a friend who didn't have the recovery disks.

The computer came with 2 hard drives one with the XP OS already installed and one that had failed. I formatted over the XP OS (he requested that I reinstall so that his data was removed)
and reinstalled with my copy of XP Pro thinking I could use the XP PRO license that came with the N300 with this. I couldn't! Is the recovery disk for this computer a copy of Windows XP that will accept my license key or is the OS stored on a hidden partition?

If it is stored on a hidden partition then a company sells recovery disks online, but before I purchase one I want to make sure that I still have the hidden partition on the hard drive.

When I look for the hidden partition with Partition Magic 8.0 I only see the main NTFS partition and a small 8MB partition that is unallocated at the end of the disk. Do the scenic n300's normally come with one or two hard drives? Could the OS hidden partition have been on the other drive?

Why don't I ask my friend? - he is clueless about PCs!!!!!

If I've destroyed the hidden partition when I formatted the drive what are my options?

I am not desperate to buy a copy of Windows XP Pro when I believed I had a perfectly valid license key for the computer.

When you reinstalled Xp, did you delete a partition? if not, other partitions are still existing.
You can find it out isf you boot from a win98SE bootdisk, and run FDISK - select show partitions
