What variant type is in the variant variable?

Dear Experts,

I use a variant variable to retrieve records from a database... once retrieved...
how can I know what is the variant type stored in the variable? (integer, string, ...)

Use the VarType function.
It returns the variant type. i.e  varInteger, varString, varDouble  etc.

Look in help will give you full list of types.
