Computer not detecting modem

Hello,

I got rogers internet connection (DSL, Motorola surfboard modem) today. I have an old desktop (P-III, RAM-512 MB) and a laptop.

Internet works fine on my laptop but does not work on my desktop. Last time, I used ethernet internet connection on the desktop about two months back. It was working fine. But then, I switched to dial up connection and I replaced the ethernet card (realtek RTL8139 high speed ethernet card) with dial up modem. Now I put the ethernet card back to the same slot again. But it keeps showing message "DH** server not reachable" (It does not detect the modem).

Any suggestion?

have you gone into the hardware profiles and uninstalled the modem and reinstalled the Ethernet care?  I would try that first.

Thanks

Do you have the motorola modem configured as a bridge device, or does it have a dhcp server?
If the modem does not have a dhcp server, you may need to configure the windows pppoe connection software.
