hard disk partition not getting recognised

I have a western digial 40 gb hdd divided in 3 partitions. this hard disk has developed bad sectors. I have copied the data on 2 of the partitions to a new hd. However when i access one of the 3 partitions the message " error performing image operation" is displayed ? what does this error mean and how can i access this partion again ? also if I format this hdd will the bad sectors go away and make the hdd usable again ? is there any way i can make sure no further bad sectors develop on this hard disk ?

Hi,

You can consider using Getdataback.
http://www.runtime.org/
A good utility to recover your data but best to install the apps on another pc and hook up the problematic one as slave to do recovery.

Note: Bad sectors may occurred again even after formatting. As you understand, integrity of your data is most important, so don't risk the trouble..
If the drive is still under warranty, you can get it exchanged for free.
Otherwise, consider getting a new drive since the price of harddrive is very cheap now.
