can't find the modem in fedora core 5

Hi there experts!  My wife has a gateway laptop with an internal modem. I installed fedora core 5 on it and we need to use the modem to make a dialup connection. KPPP doesn't seem to recognize any of the modems on the list, as far as we can tell. I had her select each one, then click on the query modem. Each one said that it can't open the modem. Perhaps the modem just isn't configured properly.

lspci gives us this line:
00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02)
which appears to indicate that the modem is found. So where do we need to look to make sure that it's configured properly? What do we need to change so that it works in KPPP? Maybe there's a way we can point the modem at /dev/modem ? This would seem to be ideal. Thanks for  your help! ttyl,

mich

I see that the topic talks about downloading a driver, but i don't see a pointer to an actual download. This exercise is left to the reader, i guess? Mostly that post is just saying how winmodems are hard for linux, etc. We all know that already ;)  The first post was someone else's comments regarding how their onboard wasn't working either. Are you trying to indicate to me that I shouldn't keep trying?  Maybe I missed the important parts, but it didn't seem like it... wasn't too much there. :p thanks and ttyl,

mich
