Remove Windows Installer Service

I Windows install service is corrupt.  I can't start it manually and I can't install any software.  I get an error message of 5 when i try to start the service.  I tried this in safe mode and i get another error message.  I have tried to re-register the Windows installer service and get some type of error that says no subscribers.  I figured the only way to fix the problem is to reinstall the service.  I downloaded the program but can not remove the old service.  when i renamen my msi.dll it comes right back.  This is on a Windows 2000 Server.  I can't upgrade my Windows Installer to a new version because my Service pak won't allow me to and since I have an Iomega NAS I can't upgrade my service pak.

How can i remove this service so i can re-instal it.

My service pak level is not high enough to run the Windows Installer update.  However I can't update my Service pak level because with an Iomega NAS drive, they have issues of not booting after service paks are installed.  Nice huh?

I can not install the Windows Installer Clean up utility.  Probably because my Windows installer service can't start.

I guess i need to reload my OS.  :(

Fixed my problem per reading other posts.  Have to give system full access of root.  That allowed me to del or ren the msi.dll with out it coming back by itself.  After the ren I could reinsall Windows installer, reboot and , done.

Thanks for the help.
