Email Backup Solution

Hi, i have an Exchange 2003 server in which my domain name has a MX record pointing directly at it for SMTP delivery. The problem is that the server is a bit buggy at the minute and once the server goes down or a exchange service crashes everybody gets NDR messages (Not Good!). I have tried setting up a second MX record for the domain for backup, pointing to a third party system but this doesnt seem to work as the emails still get sent back to the senders !.

Is there any other solution i can use to hold the emails without the senders getting a NDR message, any good services online or a setting in exchange 2003, dont really want to buy another exchange server solely for this purpose though

really the only things you could do would involve having some sort of gateway to handle messages before they get to your backend exchange servers.

options would be:
3rd party internet service such as postini
a front end exchange server
some other front end mail server that handles mail for you before it hits exchange

well, my first inclination would be to find out what's buggy with the server and fix it. exchange doesn't normally crash for no good reason. have you attempted to find out what the issue(s) is and address those?

yes its a hardware fault which is being fixed, but for future occasions i need a backup strategy as we lose alot of business when emails go down !

Any ideas
