webcam error message

i recently purchased a creative webcam, it is a pro vista webcam. i just downloaded and installed the software, it was also in my device manager.

but, i have come across two problems, one, the webcam will not work, there is no capture output. problem two, when i bring up the creative webcam centre to test the cam out, i receive an error message.

and this is the error message, i receive, can someone please help me thankyou.



webcam center.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

QUick google on this points me to the directx version, can you upgrade this and let me know?

Have u checked the Creative website? see the support section http://www.creative.com/support/

perhaps the CD has an older driver, u may need a newer driver for your O/S

check for updates

Did you install the software while the webcam was connected? If so, disconnect the webcam, remove the software, reboot, install the software and then connect the webcam.

to respond to the answers already given:

dann47, i do not understand your answer to my question: "QUick google on this points me to the directx version, can you upgrade this and let me know? ". what exactly do you mean by that?

as for rockiroads: i have been to the website, i have searched for another driver, and the response i received from the webpage, apart from giving me the driver to download, they also state that this driver is on the cd that i already have for me particular webcam, but hey, thanks anyway.

as for dasmcse's response: um while downloading and installing the software, no i did not have the web cam connect already, it was quite clearly stated in the 'how to' manual included in the package, that one has to download and install the program off the software before connecting the webcam to the usb port, naturally, so i followed the instructions to the exact letter, and just by the way, after finalising the download and installation, i did reboot, i repeat, i did reboot my computer, and when i noticed the problem with getting my webcam started, i changed my webcam connection to another usb port, no difference, i brought up my creative webcam centre program to test the camera, and got the same error message. so i have tried everything, and i have also sent an email asking for help to creative, and right now, still waiting on a response to that. so hey, thankyou to those who have responsed.

I did a serach on the .dll files and lot seem to be pointing to the version of Direct X.  can you upgrade this and see if it helps

well, i have done what you suggested, i had directx version 6.0 etc, i upgraded, and unfortunately the same error message happened. i am about to take my webcam back to the shop. thankyou for the advise, but the directx prog i probably needed, for video capture, i actually needed to download two directx progs, directx version 8.0a in order to download the directx video capture prog, but upon doing that, i found out that the last download was for the earlier versions of windows, im on xp, and this directx prog will only work for 98 me 2000. so im plain and simply out of luck, i have just downloaded another directx version, 9.0 i think, anyway, im kinda right now 'directx' confused and lost, and in all probability, i may just have to pay for a new motherboard, which means another year of saving. anyway dann47 ty for the help, even if it didnt work. smiles!

RETURN THE WEBCAM and buy a LOGITECH webcam.

YOu will be eternally happy with it.  Get rid of the Creative stuff, it doesn't work right.

There are lots of good brands that work flawless with windows, but Logitech is a SAFE bet.

um scrathcyboy, i did buy a logitech webcam, and hey guess what? i got an error message about a driver that would not register or self register, hm...........anyway, after contacting logitech, and getting 5 different technicians from logitech emailing me with instructions, which i followed absolutely to the letter, and still nothing worked, also, neither of these 5 technicians raised the issue of the driver that would not register. so i took the logitech webcam back and ordered this new one, from creative, but, no error message for the drivers, their fine, just the error message when i bring up the creative webcam centre to test my webcam out, which will not work at all. but hey, scrathcyboy, ty anyway. think ill just bide my time and save up for a new computer.
