Flexgrid and controls tabbing

I'm using VB6.  I have a flexgrid with a floating combobox and textbox for "editing" the cells in the flexgrid.  My problem arises when I add stationary textboxes to the form (that are not part of the grid).  I find myself setting the tabstop proprerty of the stationary textboxes to False.  Because if I don't the grid acts funny.  I'd like to tab through the stationary textboxes.  Does anybody understand my problem, if so, please advise.
