Try:

myGraphics2DInstance.setRenderingHint( RenderingHints.Key.KEY_ANTIALIASING, VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON ) ;

You made a typo. That should have been,

myGraphics2DInstance.setRenderingHint( RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON ) ;

but once I changed that it worked!
