Recently, McAfee AntiVirus detected our program for one of our clients to contain a "New Win32" virus, this however is not the case.

Can anybody tell me how to create a trusted application on this program?

Mcafee only allows trusted 'internet' applications namely applications that connect to the internet and use ports.  If an application is displaying virus traits or similarities then you would need to modify your program so it doesnt.

Its probably not a good idea to ship software that looks like a virus and you can't actually trust an application to say that its not a virus, if the program thinks it is there is no way around it.

McAfee tends to do that to some apps, it also detects Hijackthis as a worm.
You need to exclude that program from detection so McAfee won't detect it any longer.

Info taken from here: --> http://vil.nai.com/vil/pups/configuration.aspx

To exclude an application from detection:

Method 1 - in response to an AutoProtect alert
1. While AutoProtect is enabled, launch the program you wish to exclude from detection
2. When the warning dialog appears, click Trust this program.
The program will no longer be detected

Method 2 - following a manual system scan
1. Click on the Start button in the taskbar
2. Go to Programs
3. Go to the McAfee folder
4. Click on McAfee AntiSpyware
5. When the main McAfee AntiSpyware dialog appears, click the Scan section tab
6. Select Thorough Scan
7. Click the Scan Now button
8. When the scan is finished, highlight the program you wish to remove from detection and click the Trust button
9. When the confirmation dialog appears, click Yes
The program will no longer be detected
