Cannot get onto random sites

www.msn.com
microsoft ones
experts-exchange (am currently accessing it from a computer using remote connection)
some parts of yahoo mail

and other sites


just cant seem to get onto them

when i do a tracert to www.microsoft.com

it gets out of our network, but after the 4th hop it just times out on all the other hops

Sounds like a MTU issue on your router..
What kind of WAN connection do you have? DSL w/PPPoE ? There are known issues with MTU on these type links..

We had issues with the switch over here, so changed it last week. and then everything was fine. then on monday morning random sites just do not work.

No one has changed anything except swap wires from one switch to the other.

Sounds like a duplex mismatch on the switch then. Collisions on the wire can manifest in many odd ways...

those hop counts seem high..what type of switch did u replace and with what? If you are using dsl/cable connection try connecting a singe pc into the modem directly, bypassing all switches and see if you still expierence dropped pages.

we've tried 3 different switches, and still ge tthe problem

could it be an ISP side problem

Ok, someone just restarded the D-link modem and everything is fine now
