Flash Detection

Howdy all,

Just a quick one - was wondering what people view as the best method of Flash Detection, where there isn't the ideal option for alternative content?

Lots of points for lots of information...!

One of the better ways is to use SWFobject.  There's lots of information on the site, but rather than just paste it all here I'll give you the URL :)

Agreed Swf object is  by far the best form of detection, much smaller, cleaner and easy to implement than Adobes own flashdetectionkit. It overides the new activex issues and is Xhtml strict! which Adobes version is far from. Swfobject removes the bulk of the java script into an external file keeping everything tidy

Thanks for your help so far.

I know it's not of much importance, but isn't the reliance on JavaScript a flaw?
No other way I'm afraid, unless you want to backsave to version 6 which has 98% penetration.

There never has been an alternative to javascript to my knowledge. Java has a much higher penetration than flash player 8, about 96%, the swfobject script serves a static image alternative even if the java fails, to me thats faultless.
