Battery Backups and Messaging

We currently run SBS2003 SP1.  Is there software out there that can email me or page me if the server is improperly shutdown?  Battery backups are not like generators they last long enough so you can properly shutdown the server.  Last night (7:41pm) our server was improperly shutdown and wasn't turned back on until 8:00am this morning.  If there isn't anything for improper shutdown how about when the server switches to battery power?

Thanks for any/all assistance!

Hi JWFreedom,

Many of the UPS's out there come with their own management software that also includes the ability to send notification mails.  Have a look at APC UPS and PowerChute - http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=127

:)  No Power - No Mail

You can  implement an exteral device that will monitor not only the power but also temperature of the server environment.   These have their own Web server and also SMTP and SMS server for notification. You may want to look at that also.

Well these are old (replaced batteries) APC UPS Backups.  There is not any software or anything like that.  I live 15-20 minutes from work and I could attempt a Remote Desktop Connection to check to see, but that won't fully tell me that the server is down.  The data line could be down at that time.  So you can see why I was wondering if there was anything out there that could email me or send my phone a TXT message.
